Welcome!

We are pleased to offer the information below about our Land O’ Lakes High School International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme and our Land O’ Lakes Pre-IB (feeder) Programme. As we move into the new school year, dates will be updated to reflect new schedules of presentations.

IB Five-Year Self-Study 2017

During the course of this year, a committee of students, parents, teachers, and administrators met to discuss and author the IB Five-Year Self-Study questionnaire. Every 5 years since our IB Diploma Programme’s authorization, we reflect on our practices and philosophies and share these back in a very detailed set of documents sent to The IB. We operate in work teams to address the IB Standards to support an international education, inquiry and the related approaches to teaching and learning, international-mindedness, and the attributes of the IB Mission Statement and IB Learner Profile.

Standard A. Philosophy: The school’s educational beliefs and values reflect the IB philosophy.

Standard B1. Leadership and structure: The school’s leadership and administrative structures ensure the implementation of the IB programme(s).

Standard B2. Resources and support: The school’s resources and support structures ensure the implementation of the IB programme(s).

Standard C1. Collaborative planning: Collaborative planning and reflection supports the implementation of the IB programme(s).

Standard C2. Written curriculum: The school’s written curriculum reflects the IB philosophy.

Standard C3. Teaching and Learning: Teaching and learning reflects the IB philosophy.

Special Needs / Inclusion

We are especially grateful to have partnered with our friends at Pine View Middle School – an IB MYP school and are looking forward to serving the greater Land O’ Lakes and central and east Pasco County communities as a K-12 continuum of IB learning as Pine View Elementary School makes its journey to becoming an IB PYP school.

A special thank you to the dozens of stakeholders who worked diligently to make this a successful programme reflection and to the hundreds of current and former IB students and family members who shared their input into questions essential to the growth of our students and school.

  6. It assesses more than examination techniques.

Tell Me About: The IB Core

IBCore
The International Baccalaureate Programme focuses on developing students’ strengths academically and as caring global citizens. The academic subjects surround the experiences of our students, while the IB Core lies at the heart of what we do in becoming the people who will lead our communities forward.

Tell Me About: The IB Core is an overview of Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and Creativity-Action-Service, which together assist our International Baccalaureate students to grow in attaining the characteristics found in the IB Learner Profile.

Tell Me About: Creativity-Action-Service

International Baccalaureate students engage in a rigorous, university-level curriculum with a unifying element of becoming a successful, caring, global citizen.  In addition to their courses, students:

Engage in critical analysis through the authoring of an Extended Essay.
Participate in the Theory of Knowledge course to evaluate how human beings make sense of their world and experiences.

Perform Creativity-Action-Service, or CAS, a service/leadership component of the full IB experience.
At the beginning of their junior year, Land O’ Lakes IB students and families are introduced to CAS and begin on the road to taking part in this fulfilling work.

To find out more about CAS, download and view this Land O’ Lakes High School Renewing the Commitment 2016-17 and watch a brief video.

What does it mean to volunteer, do community service, and to fulfill CAS in the DP?

The International Baccalaureate Programme focuses on developing students’ strengths academically and as caring global citizens. The academic subjects surround the experiences of our students, while the IB Core lies at the heart of what we do in becoming the people who will lead our communities forward.

Tell Me About: Extended Essay provides an understanding of the process for conducting an original, authentic, academic investigation in an area of interest to the  student.  Students work with an advisor who guides the development of the research question and challenges the student to deeply examine and reflect upon the manner in which the study has been conducted.

FROM OUR FIVE YEAR SELF-STUDY IN 2012

IB Five-Year Self-Study Committee Reunites to Celebrate!

This past June, the IB Five-Year Self-Study Committee submitted its report to IBO detailing the growth and progress of the Land O’ Lakes High School International Baccalaureate Programme, its policies, and plans for future development.  IBO responded positively, recognizing the many ways that our school and its teachers meet or exceed IB standards in order to offer a dynamic, sustainable program of study to students.  The Committee reconvened on February 8, 2013 to share the IBO response, recognitions, and commendations.  Joining us were committee members from the faculty and administration, parents and students.  Of special note, Joanne Hurley, who participated on the Self-Study Committee as the School Board representative, and Mr. Kurt S. Browning, Pasco’s Superintendent of Schools, attended the meeting.
