Acting 1-4 Classes:
The Acting program at Land O’ Lakes High School offers students the opportunity to explore and develop their skills in performance, creativity, and collaboration. Acting 1–4 students share the same classroom, allowing beginners to learn from experienced performers while advanced students take on leadership roles and refine their craft.
Throughout the year, students study the fundamentals of acting, including character development, movement, voice, improvisation, and scene work. As they progress, they explore advanced performance techniques, audition preparation, and character analysis, as well as participate in class performances and school productions.
Whether students are discovering the stage for the first time or preparing for college theater programs, Acting 1–4 provides a supportive, creative environment where every performer can grow in confidence, skill, and self-expression.
Mission Statement – LOLHS Drama Program
We believe in the transformative power of theatre to inspire, empower, and connect. Our drama program is a creative home for all students, a place where every voice is valued, every story matters, and every individual is welcome. Through collaboration, discipline, and imagination, we aim to build confident performers, thoughtful artists, and compassionate humans. Together, we create meaningful art, build lasting friendships, and make our stage a reflection of the world.
Fees: Students who choose to audition and accept a role may be required to pay a participation fee. The amount varies by production and helps cover the cost of costumes, paint, props, set pieces, and other materials needed for the show.
Activities – Our Drama Troupe typically competes in three theater competitions each year, where we’ve earned numerous top honors across a variety of theatrical disciplines. In addition to competitions, we produce one to two musicals and two plays annually.

Sabrina S. Hydes was born on MacDill Air Force Base in Florida and discovered her love for theater in middle school after seeing Little Shop of Horrors for the first time. A proud graduate of the University of South Florida, Mrs. Hydes has been teaching for 23 years and currently leads the drama program and Thespian Troupe 4740—the Gator Lane Players—at Land O’ Lakes High School.
A former band and chorus student, Mrs. Hydes brings a strong musical background to her theater classroom and productions. Her favorite musical is Next to Normal—a show she has had the opportunity to direct—and her favorite play is Fences, which she hopes to bring to the stage one day.
When she’s not in rehearsal (which isn’t often), Mrs. Hydes enjoys playing the piano, spending time with her husband, two grown sons, and their 155-pound dog, Duke. A devoted theater fan, she loves attending shows at the Straz Center, where she holds season tickets for the Broadway series.
If you’d like to learn more about the theater program at Land O’ Lakes High School, please email Mrs. Hydes. Don’t forget to check out our photo gallery of past productions and the promo for one of our upcoming musicals for the 2025–2026 year!
